I studied the Blending Learning Professional Diploma which allows you to work and study at the same time, although they recommend that you work a maximum of 4 days per week. From my experience I would say that working 3 days a week would be better! The syllabus included:
- the design process from taking the brief through to space planning and technical drawing (by hand and 2D CAD);
- technical drawing: floor plans, elevations and sections, axonometric and isometric projections, one and two point measured perspectives;
- presentation techniques: sample boards, furniture books and rendering techniques;
- technical understanding: lighting plans and building construction;
- Research Project 1: Textiles and Window Treatments;
- Research Project 2: History of Style from 1660 to 20th Century (including French styles from 1600 to 1820).
(I completed the course in 2010 - please see the current syllabus on the KLC website)
I have included here a selection of design project work from my course:
- Nash House – signature style residential project (final project)
- Rutland House – luxury refurbishment (live project for Candy & Candy)
- The Prince Regent Pub & Dining Room – commercial project with limited budget (live project for Food & Fuel)
- Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat - residential project for a celebrity
