About Me

My photo
Hampshire, United Kingdom
In July 2010 I graduated from KLC School of Design in London with a Professional Diploma in Interior Design (please see the tabs below for course details and project portfolios). Since September 2010 I've been working for a local interior design practice just outside Alton in Hampshire. Through this blog, I hope to share with you products which I like and things which inspire me - together with the odd post about my own home which is a working project. A good home is never finished!

Lights ... Lights ... Lights!

Each project introduced a new technical skill and for the Rutland House project we were required to produce lighting plans which inevitably led to researching different types of lighting (bear in mind that there was NO budget specified for this project!)

Here is a selection of my favourite discoveries .......

Eternity table lamp from the Emily Todhunter Collection (I'm a fan of Todhunter Earle and used this table lamp in the Entrance Reception).  Todhunter Earle have recently collaborated with Tim Gosling to produce a range of furniture (source IDFX).

Still on the subject of table lamps, I also used these lamps from Porta Romana ....

Glass Blob Lamp in Amethyst (used in the Arrivals Reception)

Gourd Lamp in Prune
(also used  in the Arrivals Reception)

Perfume Bottle Lamp in Bay

Amara are stockists of Porta Romana lighting - and also stock some lovely home accessories including these candles....

The pink one is my favourite!

The Entrance Hall needed something which would make an impact and these lamps (standing 850mm tall) did the job!  I chose 2 of these Limos lamps from
Teslamall.  The square lamp base is polished chrome,  the column is silver leaf hand decorated majolica and the small spheres are shown here in black glass. The shade is silvery parchment.

Also on my shortlist were these Oshi lamps (also from Teslamall) but the base was gold and wouldn't have looked right with the rest of the scheme.

Teslamall also provide luxury interior design products for luxury yachts, should you ever need products for your luxury yacht!

The main Entrance Reception and Arrivals Receptions called for something with 'wow factor'.  I chose the Crystal Fame Circle by Swarovski and the Helix Ceiling Lamp, also by Swarovski.  The Crystal Fame Circle retails at approximately £2,300 and the Helix Ceiling Lamp is a bit more at around £6,800!!

I originally sourced these from the Crystal Lighting Centre, who now seem to have gone out of business. I have discovered a site called Luxury Lighting & Electrical Supplies which supply the Helix but not sure about the Fame Circle.  I think that if I was actually buying either of these, I probably wouldn't spend that much money without checking the company I was buying from!

While researching lighting for the Games / Media Room and Smoking Room, I came across these wall lights, all of which are from Porta Romana.

Two Toms!

Well, I've had a look back through my projects and during my second project I discovered Tom Faulkner Furniture and have admired his work ever since.  I used the Capricorn console and coffee table in that design, and also the Tiffany chair.

Picture from my sample board
(doesn't really do the actual table justice!)

Tempted though I was to use his furniture in every project, I held off until my last one when I gave way and used the Liberty dining table in the dining area of the kitchen, though it was a hard decision between that one and Opera!

Also whilst working on my second project, I discovered these lights from Tom Dixon.   I suspended two lights from the ceiling, one either side of the bed.

(again, this doesn't do these lights justice!)

I receive regular updates from the Tom Faulkner website but even his 'clearance' section (which is ex-showroom) is sadly out of my league at the moment!  One day though ......

Welcome to my blog!

Where to start?!  This is a new venture for me and, quite unashamedly, my initial purpose for doing this is to promote myself - if I don't do it, nobody else is going to do it for me!

I'm still in the process of creating pages showing some of my project work from the interior design course I completed with KLC School of Design in London earlier this year.  However, conscious that the purpose of blogging (as I understand it) is to act as a sort of diary and/or a vehicle for sharing thoughts/inspiration, I thought I had better start and actually post something!

Ultimately, I think my blog will be a place for me to share things which inspire me or products which I have discovered, and I'm sure will continue to discover, as I (hopefully!) venture into a new career in interior design.

I hope you will find it useful and inspiring too!

Introductions over, this page needs a bit of colour!

This is the concept from my final project at KLC.  This project was our signature style project - so this is me in picture form!

That's it for now, my next few posts will probably be products I discovered whilst studying .....
